Believe it or not, we started as a small bakery over in Fort Lee, New Jersey called Parisienne. Since 1990, we have been bringing to customers what we still cherish. Fresh hand made products. Although Parisienne is still live & well, we wanted to expand to a more broader audience. What can we do to survive Manhattan? What do we need to do to satisfy New Yorkers? Welcome to Cafe Zaiya.

Our first location was opened on March 31st, 2002 on 41st street. Our goal was to present to people what was not presented ever before. Most places that sell their sandwiches buy their bread. Alot of places that sell cakes buy them as well. Almost everything we sell at Cafe Zaiya is made from scratch. Even the mayonnaise that is used in various items are hand made by us. We obviously do not have to list each item that we make from scratch since we believe our loyal customers can tell the difference. To say it in a simple manner, everything you see in our store is our own original product. Nothing is bought or copied.

At Cafe Zaiya, we love to do so many different things. This is for the people who want to visit us everyday and leave with a different experience every time. We have an infinite amount of combinations that you can make so each and every meal that you enjoy will always be different.

As of 2008, we are proud to say that we have two more locations open in New York City. This way, wherever you are, whom ever you are with, you can come visit us anytime. Please make sure to frequently check on us as we are constantly bringing out new products for your pleasure.

Just in case you were wondering who is behind all this, we would like to for everyone to understand that alot of passion and hard work went into making what Zaiya is now.  Mr. Hirokazu Sano, former President and CEO who passed away in July of 2009 brought up this company to where it is today.  We would appreciate if you take some time to read what he was about  in order to honor Mr. Sano as he is still in all of our hearts each and every day.

Hirolazu Sano was born on February 29, 1960 in the Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan.  While studying in college, he realized that his passion was baking and started working in a bakery to learn about bread.  After completeing his collegiate studies and already having a few years of baking under his belt, his desire was to bring his passions over to the United States and test his strenghs.  He started out as a baker in the first Japanese bakery in the east coast.  At the present time, there was nothing like it and the store was an instant hit.  People were pouring in from everywhere from Connecticut and from as far as Pennsylvania just to get a taste of auhentic Japanese bread.  Finally in 1990, he opened Parisienne Bakery in Fort Lee, New Jersey.  This is where it all started.  Finally, operating his own shop became a reality and just as expected, became a household name in the community.  After years of hard work and persistence, Parisienne soon spread out throughout Westchester County with more stores to come.

This is where Zaiya begins.  In April 1st 2002, the 41st store location which is now our flagship store, opened up with a totally new concept for New Yorkers.  A one stop shop for all Japanese delicacies.  From cakes to bento boxes, pastries to a full service drink bar, one can come in and leave with infinite possibilities.  A store that makes everything by hand.  No imitations, just originality.  Fortunately, his success allowed him to open up two more locations in Manhattan and a huge factory in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Unfortunately, Mr. Hirokazu Sano passed away in July of 2008 at a young age of 48.  His legacy will continue to be honored by the incredible team he left behind and hope to expand as he would have wished.  To this day, Zaiya New York serves more than 3000 people daily in all locations combined.  Our main goal and focus is to bring to customers what has not been offered before.  We can be imitated but never never duplicated.
